JUNIOR SCIENCE & ENGINEERING EXCELLENCE AND DIVERSITY (JrSEED)
Overview
JrSEED was founded in 2015 by a group of Professors in the School of Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering. Dr. Merchan-Merchan is the Director of the JrSEED program. The idea is to inspire and enhance the motivation of (incoming junior and senior) high school students to pursue a science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) career by offering an opportunity to learn about engineering through exposure to several unique hands-on engineering related concepts/projects.
Mission
JrSEED provides (incoming Freshman, Sophmore, Junior, and Senior) high school students an excellent opportunity to learn about “what-is” engineering through exposure to several unique hands-on engineering related concepts/projects. This program is the outcome of our school’s participation in a National competition for Transforming Engineering Culture to Advance Inclusion and Diversity (TECAID).
What makes JrSEED unique?
Introduces participants to the OU campus and especially to the Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering facilities.
Participants will interact with faculty mentors and peers, and have fun with science & engineering and development activities.
The program offers a seminar on inclusion & diversity to the participants and Introduction of the importance of working in a diverse setting/environment and working on a team of people.
Participants can continue to work with Professors once they start at OU. Apply Here
